St. Mary’s University (SMU) has successfully completed a two-week Training of Trainers (ToT) program on financial education for youth and MSMEs. Commissioned by First Consult Plc, the implementing partner of National Bank of Ethiopia in this particular project, St. Mary’s University delivered the training where 54 senior financial professionals and heads from different financial institutions, including banks and saving and credit associations, were in attendance. This training is part of the “Development and standardization of financial education modules, materials, delivery channels, and technical assistance to financial education providers” which intends to ensure financial inclusion in Ethiopia.
The training was opened by Ato Getachew Mekonnen, Access to Finance Lead at First Consult, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of financial literacy for the country’s economic development. He was followed by Ato Henok Tena, Manager of First Consult, who explained the objectives and expectations of the project and thanked SMU for its technical expertise and quality delivery.
On behalf of St Mary’s University, Dr. Misganaw Solomon, Vice President for Research and International Relations, briefly presented the overview of the module development process and the methodology used. He also appreciated the partnership with NBE and First Consult and the opportunity to contribute to the national financial inclusion strategy.
The training sessions were facilitated by SMU’s technical team, who used interactive and participatory methods to engage the trainees and elicit their feedback. The trainees, who represented various financial institutions such as banks, microfinance institutions, insurance companies, and cooperatives, showed high interest and enthusiasm in the training, and actively participated in the discussions and exercises.
The training was concluded with a closing ceremony, where certificates of completion were awarded to the trainees and the facilitators. Ato Henok Tena, Manager of First Consult, congratulated the participants and the trainers for the successful completion of the training and expressed his satisfaction with the program. He also expressed his interest in working with SMU in the future and hoped the collaboration would lead to more fruitful partnerships and opportunities.
